Man wanted for allegedly beating woman now in jail

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) – A Natchitoches Parish man wanted for allegedly attacking a former girlfriend is now in jail.

Police say 34-year-old Calvin Ray Moss turned himself in to police about 5 p.m. Thursday night. He was booked into the city jail on a charge of 2nd degree battery. His bond was set at $150,000.

Quartet to sing at Plain Dealing church

The Southern Plainsmen Quartet will present a southern gospel concert at Salem Baptist Church on Sunday, August 7.

The Southern Plainsmen have been named Louisiana’s goodwill ambassadors. They are from Hornbeck, Louisiana, and have been delighting audiences and lifting spirits across the nation for over 30 years.

The church is located at 19620 E. Highway 157 in Plain Dealing just in between the towns of Springhill and Plain Dealing at the Redland Community.

Two jail guards arrested for bringing contraband into prison

NATCHITOCHES PARISH, LA (KSLA) – Two part-time Natchitoches Parish correction officers face criminal charges after investigators say the pair was smuggling contraband into the parish jail.

Deputies arrested 23-year-old Demetrus Jude Lewis and 33-year-old Gary Fontenot after a six-month investigation into an illegal smuggling operation that was bringing contraband into the jail. The contraband include tobacco products, synthetic marijuana, and other narcotics.

New CNG filling station opens in Red River Parish

A new CNG fueling station in Red River Parish is providing drivers who fuel their cars with compressed natural gas another place to fill up. The station is located at 1392 Hwy. 84 E. in Coushatta.

For the moment, that makes two operational CNG stations in northwest Louisiana, the other one being in Bossier City at the corner of Benton Rd. and Texas St. However at least seven more public CNG stations are set to open within the next nine months.

The Cane River Green Market ends its 2011 summer season this Saturday with a customer and vendor appreciation day. The market is held from 8 a.m. - noon on the riverbank in downtown Natchitoches.

Featured activities will include free popcorn and ice cream while supplies last, free face painting, sale of hotdogs by Patrick Hollier, and live musical entertainment by Luke Jazz Trio from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Louisiana Workforce Commission sponsoring tank truck driver job fair August 3

A hiring event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Mansfield to recruit tank truck drivers for an oil and gas services yard in the Frierson area of DeSoto Parish.

The event, which is sponsored by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the DeSoto Business and Career Solutions Center, 142 Lake Road, Mansfield.
