ARCADIA, LA - On Thursday, May 24, bidders will convene on the campus of Bonnie & Clyde Trade Days, a 130-acre commercial park where normally thousands flock for its monthly flea market and occasional blue grass concerts.
Almost 84 years ago to the day, the infamous Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, met their demise by police ambush not far from the Bonnie & Clyde Trade Days site.
Their bodies were brought to Arcadia for embalming before being transported back to the fugitives' native Texas. For a few weeks, Arcadia was on the national map.
In 1990, Lamar Ozley and Roy Jones decided to draw from Arcadia's gangster fame, when they started their flea market and RV park. In addition to the reference to the infamous duo in the businesses name, parts of the park are named "Ambush," "Barrow," "Shotgun," and "Shoot-out." Over the past 22 years, crowds have reached as large as 65,000 and regular throngs of 4,000-6,000 at the idyllic grounds with three stocked lakes, cabins, and waterfront cafe.
The auction will include not only all of the land and commercial buildings, but also Worsham's own residence.
