32 NSU students named to Who's Who

Thirty-two Northwestern State University students were named to the 2012 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges.

The students were chosen by campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

Northwestern State University inducted new members into the international business honor society, Beta Gamma Sigma.  Membership in Beta Gamma Sigma is the highest recognition a business student can receive in a business program accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.

DOTD announces 2013 Louisiana Aviation Art Contest

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced the 2013 Louisiana Aviation Art Contest, sponsored by its Aviation Section. The theme for this year’s contest is “My Favorite Air Sport.”

Students between age 6 and 17 are encouraged to create artwork based on the use of this year’s theme in relation to the aviation world. The intent of the contest is to encourage young people throughout Louisiana to become more familiar with and participate in aeronautics, engineering, and science.

Cane River Patrol advises that Cane River Lake is now open to boating traffic.

They say that boaters should navigate the waters carefully because the lake is still experiencing low water conditions.

NSU student wins state piano competition

NSU student wins state piano competition

Northwestern State University student MinJeong Kim recently won first place in the Young Artist division of the annual Louisiana Music Teachers Association piano competition. She will advance to regional competition in January.

Kim performed works by Bach, Mozart, Chopin and Dutilleux during the 60-minute competition covering the baroque, classical,romantic and 20th century periods.

NSU Marching Contest set for Saturday

Thirty high school marching bands from Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi are participating in the annual Northwestern State University Marching Contest on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Turpin Stadium.

The contest begins at 10:15 a.m. The Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band performs at 5 p.m. The awards presentation is at 5:15 p.m. Admission is $5.

Lyric Women, Men's Chorus to perform Thursday

Northwestern State University Lyric Women and the NSU Men’s Chorus will present a concert starting at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1 in the Magale Recital Hall.

Admission is free. The public is invited.
