Sylvan will again be hosting the "Amazing Reading Race" reading contest for students grades K-8 in Caddo, DeSoto, Webster and Bossier parishes.

We will use our Book Adventure web-site to track which students pass the most number of quizzes on books that they have read from June 1 through August 31.

Prizes will be awarded for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 as well as a GRAND PRIZE!!

We will be hosting a kick-off party at the center ,6560 Youree Drive Suite 1001 on Friday, May 4, at 4:30p.m.

A pair of upcoming parades in Natchitoches will kick off that city's Mardi Gras festivities. The parades are part of Mardi Gras Magic, which is happening on Saturday, February 18.

Tuesday, January 3rd through 7th, the American Coin Buyers Guild will be in Minden, Louisiana as part of their world tour. During this event at the Holiday Inn Express, located at 1332 Sibley Rd., specialists will analyze and appraise coins and paper currency.

The public is invited to stop by with any and all old gold coins, old paper money, gold, silver, diamonds, antiques, vintage toys, rare musical instruments, costume jewelry and weapons from WWI, WWII, and the Civil War for appraisal. The event will be held from Tuesday - Friday, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.
