LA Groundwater Management public meeting set for Nov. 9th

The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Office of Conservation will host a series of public meetings in November to provide information on the state’s past and current ground water resources management practices.

DNR officials also hope to draft recommendations for a statewide ground water plan.

A meeting is scheduled to be held in Shreveport, Wednesday, November 9th at 5:30 p.m. and will be held at the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum, located at 3015 Greenwood Rd.

Filling up at a local Valero station did more than just keep your car running, it also helped feed the hungry in our community.

The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, a Feeding America member food bank, and Valero, an international manufacturer and marketer of energy products and power, announced today that $20,515 has been raised from the “Fill Up to Fight Hunger” campaign and will be donated to the food bank.

Natchitoches store managers arrested on arson charges

The manager and an employee of a Natchitoches store face criminal charges after investigators determine their store was intentionally set on fire.

The Louisiana Fire Marshal's Office says back on Oct. 6, the Natchitoches Fire Department was called to the Dollar General store on Kaiser Avenue. Fire crews found a rear door area of the store in flames, but there were able to put the fire out before it affected any other nearby businesses.

Ebarb student recognized for his leadership in his school and community

A student from Ebarb High School is the latest to be honored by Chesapeake Energy in its Discovering Tomorrow's Leader's Contest.

16-year-old Samuel Laroux was selected from more than 70 nominations submitted by parents, teachers, principals and classmates. He, alone, received ten nominations. Samuel was recognized for his leadership qualities within his school and community.

As part of the contest, Chesapeake also donated $1,000 work of equipment to Ebarb High School.

Homer Memorial Hospital holds groundbreaking for new ICU

Homer Memorial Hospital in Homer held a groundbreaking Thursday morning for its new six-bed intensive care unit. Money for the new unit came from funds donated to the Claiborne Healthcare Foundation.
