37 jobs coming soon to NWLA, thanks to USDA Grant

USDA Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Thursday that funding is being provided to producers and development organizations in 40 states and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico to promote job creation and business development.

One of the recipients announced is in Shreveport, Louisiana.

The Coordinating and Development Corporation has been selected for a $750,000 Intermediary Relending Program (IRP) loan to provide low-interest financing to public and non-profit groups for business and community development.

Natchitoches Parish students can get a free ticket to NSU home opener

Natchitoches Parish public and private school students in grades K-8 can make a pleasant visit to the principal’s office this week to pick up a  free ticket for the NSU Demons’ football season opener Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in Turpin Stadium, where two students will win an iPad or a Texas Instruments scientific calculator courtesy of Sylvan Learning.

Workshop for minority farmers and ranchers this Thursday

A workshop for minority farmers and ranchers will be held from 9 a.m. - noon on Thursday, August 25 at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, 2821 Greenwood Road in Shreveport.

The workshop is called "Disadvantaged but Not Forgotten". New resources will be shared concerning the Farm Services Agency (FSA), Rural Development (RD) and Natural Resources and Conservation Services (NRCS). The interactive workshop will offer information to help minority farmers and ranchers with growth opportunities.

State to widen Hwy. 3276 in DeSoto Parish

State to widen Hwy. 3276 in DeSoto Parish

Money from Louisiana's Capital Outlay fund and the federal government will widen a heavily traveled road in DeSoto Parish.

The $10.2 million will go toward improving LA 3276 between US Hwy. 171 and I-49. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and other state officials were on hand to bring the news to the parish.

The plan calls for a half-mile section near US Hwy. 171 to be widened to include a center turn lane. The rest of the road will be widened to 12 feet from the current 10 feet, and will include eight-foot shoulders.
