During the entire month of April, Shreveport residents are in a race to secure grants to help fight hunger locally. The contest involves rallying the community to go online and vote for the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank to share part of a $3 million grant to help fund hunger relief programs.

Northwestern State University students and faculty will participate in the second annual University of Louisiana System Academic Summit on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
The celebration of academic excellence at UL System universities will encompass the previous system-wide service-learning conference, a student art exhibition and undergraduate research day.

Rapides Regional Medical Center recognized registered nurse Tessia Ratcliff with The Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses. The award, presented in collaboration with the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) is part of the Daisy Foundation’s program to recognize the efforts nurses perform every day.

North DeSoto Middle School has been awarded the prestigious TAP Founder’s Award. The award, which includes a $50,000 prize, was presented before more than 1,200 educators and policy leaders during a special luncheon recently at the 13th National TAP Conference in Washington, D.C.

Northwestern State University Theatre and Dance students participated in the annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for Region 6 held at the Strand Theatre in Shreveport. This is the first time Northwestern has taken part in the Festival, according to Director of Musical Theatre Andrew Lewis.
Students performed scenes from fall productions of “Smokey Joe’s Café” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as part of an evening of invited scenes.
