NSU displays 12 Yankowski wooden sculptures

An exhibition of 12 wooden sculptures by Michael Yankowski is on display in Northwestern State University’s Gallery 2. 

The public is invited to a reception to meet the artist and discuss his work from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4. The gallery is on the second floor, Room 200G, of the Creative and Performing Arts building adjacent to the Orville Hanchey Gallery. The exhibition runs Jan. 28-Feb. 14.

Dr. Nathaniel D. Wood, associate professor of history at the University of Kansas, will speak at Northwestern State University at noon on Friday, Feb.15.  Wood is a 1996 graduate of the Louisiana Scholars’ College at Northwestern State.

NSU theatre/dance group to present 'Eleemosynary'

The Northwestern State University Theatre and Dance will present "Eleemosynary" from Feb. 21-24 and Feb. 27 to March 2 in Theatre West. Performance time is 7:30 p.m. except for a 2 p.m. matinee performance on Sunday, Feb. 24.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for children and senior citizens. Northwestern State, BPCC@NSU and Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts students are admitted free with a current student I.D. Tickets can be purchased online at theatre.nsula.edu. Toledo Bend to host college fishing tourney

FLW College Fishing is headed to Toledo Bend Reservoir Feb. 16 for the second of four stops in the Southern Conference. Fifty college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the Southern Conference Invitational tournament.

Anglers will take off from Paradise Point Park located in Hemphill, Texas, at 7 a.m. Saturday. Weigh-in will be held at the park beginning at 1:30 p.m. Takeoff and weigh-in are free and open to the public.

Chesapeake Energy donates vehicle to Shelby Sheriff's Office

Chesapeake Energy donated on Tuesday a 2011 Chevy Silverado, formerly of the company’s security fleet, to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.

At an event held at the sheriff’s headquarters in Center, Texas, Chesapeake presented the keys to the four-wheel-drive truck that the company says will provide durable transportation and access to rural sites.

American folk artist Andrew McKnight will perform in concert at the Sweet Cane Inn in Natchitoches starting a 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6.

The concert is free and open to the public.

A recital featuring pianist Un Hee Kim, violinist Unkyoung Kim and cellist Paul Christopher will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Louisiana School for Math, Science and the Arts Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
