A 12-year veteran of the Bowie County Sheriff's Office was fired Monday after deputies arrested him for DWI.

Bowie Sheriff James Prince said 39-year-old Michael Wayne Martin was charged with Driving While Intoxicated after an incident involving his ex-girlfriend early Monday morning.

Kash, a German Shephard and a five-year veteran with the department, died at his handler's home on Sunday. He was 8-years-old.

Shooting leaves one injured in DeSoto Parish

STONEWALL, LA (KSLA)- A struggle between two men armed with handguns resulted in one of them being critically injured in Stonewall on Tuesday.

It happened just before 2:00 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Griffin Drive.

DeSoto Parish Sheriff's investigators say 37-year-old Billy Haywood of Dallas, Texas was shot in the abdomen after a verbal confrontation between him and the homeowner, 48-year-old Robert Richard. Both men had handguns, and one of the weapons went off during the struggle.

10 people cited for hunting violations

A tip about illegal night hunting in Webster and Bienville Parishes led to several people getting citations from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' agents.

Agents began investigating the tip back in December of last year. To date, 10 people were cited for breaking a variety of hunting-related laws.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Agents arrested a Bossier Parish man on felony firearm charges after he spent the night lost in the woods.

LDWF agents say 37-year-old Ray McKinney of Benton was found outside of Jamestown by a landowner who said McKinney was hunting on the landowner's property without permission. When the landowner confronted McKinney, he ran into the woods. He ended up getting lost and spent the night in the woods.

Wildlife agents and Bienville Parish Deputies found McKinney the next morning near Hwy. 507.
