Gibsland, LA man ejected in Bienville parish two-vehicle collision

BIENVILLE PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A 46-year-old man from Gibsland, Louisiana was critically injured and airlifted to a local hospital Thursday evening after having been involved in a major two-vehicle crash in Bienville Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to LA Hwy. 154 at its intersection with LA Hwy. 516 in Bienville Parish Thursday. According to investigating troopers, 46-year-old Joseph C. Thompson of Ruston was traveling north on LA 154 towing a utility trailer,  when he entered the intersection of LA 516.

Castor H.S. to host Walk-A-Thon for St. Jude

Faculty, staff and students at Castor High School will host a Walk-A-Thon for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to raise funds for kids battling cancer.

The event is scheduled for October 15th, starting at 10 a.m. at Castor High School, in Castor, Louisiana.

Organizers of the fundraising event say there will be a cake walk, a fun jump and face painting for kids. There wil also be a raffle for prizes and other activities and food.

Town of Gibsland now under Boil Advisory

Town of Gibsland now under Boil Advisory

The entire Town of Gibsland, Louisiana has been put under a mandatory boil advisory.

The order went out Thursday morning. All residents of Gibsland have been advised to boil all water for at least one full minute before use or consumption.

It is unknown what prompted the immediate boil order. Stay tuned for updates for when the advisory will be lifted.

Homer Memorial Hospital in Homer held a groundbreaking Thursday morning for its new six-bed intensive care unit. Money for the new unit came from funds donated to the Claiborne Healthcare Foundation. Boil advisory lifted for parts of South Claiborne Water System

A boil advisory for some customers on the South Claiborne Water System has been lifted. System officials said the boil advisory was needed because of problems with the supply system. The only customers affected by the boil advisory were west of intersection Hwy. 518 and Hwy. 146 to Gladney Farm Rd. Water tested by the Department of Health and Hospitals came back showing the water was safe.

The Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-med/pre-health occupations club at Northwestern State University will host a guest lecture by Pamela Adrian, associate director of admissions at New York College of Podiatric Medicine.  The presentation will be at 1 p.m. Friday. Sept. 16 in Room 146 of Morrison Hall.  Participants will learn about an alternative to traditional medical school education.
