City of Natchitoches asking for voluntary water restrictions from residents

The City of Natchitoches is again asking its residents and businesses to conserve water, this time with a few suggested restrictions.

Odd-numbered addresses may use water outdoors on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Even or unnumbered can water outside on Mondays Wednesdays and Saturdays. No outdoor water use should be done on any day between the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Final Cane River Green Market this Saturday in Natchitoches

The Cane River Green Market ends its 2011 summer season this Saturday with a customer and vendor appreciation day. The market is held from 8 a.m. - noon on the riverbank in downtown Natchitoches.

Featured activities will include free popcorn and ice cream while supplies last, free face painting, sale of hotdogs by Patrick Hollier, and live musical entertainment by Luke Jazz Trio from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.

NW LA to get share of $45M in public housing funds

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KSLA) – More than a dozen towns and parishes throughout Louisiana will federal funds aimed at fixing up public housing.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded Louisiana $45.4 million to help repair and rehab public housing. The money will go toward capital improvements like repairing roofs or fixing plumbing or electrical problems.

Cane River Green Market to celebrate National Watermelon Month

The Cane River Green Market will have special activies planned on Saturday, July 16 in celebration of National Watermelon Month.

Some of the activites planned include samples of locally grown watermelons and watermelon punch, and a watermelon eating contest. Prizes will be awarded in the watermelon eating competition.
