The Cane River Green Market (CRGM) continues its 2011 season on Saturday, June 25 with an exciting array of activities in celebration of June as National Dairy Month.

Natchitoches' local farmer's market will take place every Saturday from 8 a.m.

DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) – More than 20 families have been forced from their homes because of a woods fire in DeSoto Parish.

The fire is in the Benson Community, located just south of Mansfield in the New Benson and Sam Booker Roads area.

So far those evacuated have found other relatives to stay with. DeSoto deputies are also helping evacuate some elderly residents and those without transportation.

DeSoto Fire District No. 8 has put out a mutual aid request from nearby districts and Sabine Parish.

One of the two water wells that service the Chestnut/Readhimer in north Natchitoches Parish has quit working, and customers are being asked to conserve water as much as possible.

In an alert sent by Water System President Leslie Johnson, said it appears the well is no longer producing water and has more than likely dried up. Johnson said the remaining well is not capable of meeting what has become the normal water needs of its customers.

A meeting on the matter is set for Thursday evening.

A large, mulit-parish water system has become the latest entity to put a water ban in place because of the region's dry conditions.

The Bayou Pierre Water System covers residents in Red River, Natchitoches, Caddo and DeSoto Parishes. They've put a ban on all outdoor watering, such as watering lawns and gardens, washing cars, and filling pools, until the area gets a significant rainfall.

More than 30 cyclists pedaled into Natchitoches Tuesday on a journey from Jacksonville, Fla., to Monterey, Calif.  The group is part of the Bike & Build organization, a national non-profit that raises funds and awareness for affordable housing causes.
