Natchitoches Mayor will not run for re-election

NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA)-

The mayor of Natchitoches announced Monday that he will not run for re-election in the spring.

Mayor Wayne McCullen says he will not seek a fourth term in office after he completes his term next June.

McCullen says he looks forward to spending more time with his family as well as traveling.

Before serving as mayor for 12 years, McCullen served on the city council for 20 years.

McCullen will be the longest serving elected official in the city's history with 32 years of public service.

DeSoto Parish home destroyed by tornado, cleanup underway

A tornado is being blamed for damage to at least one home in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, and clean up efforts have already begun.

The storm system rolled through Tuesday evening and the home, located along Funsten Rd. in Logansport, Louisiana suffered some major damage.

The homeowner was reportedly inside the house when the storm came through, blowing trees throughout the yard and even into the house.

The tree, according to the homeowner, fell through the kitchen and knocked down a couple of walls.

Filling up at a local Valero station did more than just keep your car running, it also helped feed the hungry in our community.

The Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana, a Feeding America member food bank, and Valero, an international manufacturer and marketer of energy products and power, announced today that $20,515 has been raised from the “Fill Up to Fight Hunger” campaign and will be donated to the food bank.

Gibsland, LA man ejected in Bienville parish two-vehicle collision

BIENVILLE PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A 46-year-old man from Gibsland, Louisiana was critically injured and airlifted to a local hospital Thursday evening after having been involved in a major two-vehicle crash in Bienville Parish.

According to Louisiana State Police, troopers responded to LA Hwy. 154 at its intersection with LA Hwy. 516 in Bienville Parish Thursday. According to investigating troopers, 46-year-old Joseph C. Thompson of Ruston was traveling north on LA 154 towing a utility trailer,  when he entered the intersection of LA 516.

Some North DeSoto residents under a boil advisory

A Boil Advisory has been issued for some customers on the North DeSoto Water System.

The resident's affected are those on Dalton Road, those west of Dalton Road, and those in Hallmark Estates.

The water system did not say why they asked for the boil advisory or when the advisory would be over.

Fire crews able to rescue puppy trapped in burning home

A central Louisiana family has a lot to be grateful for after a fire broke out in their home and nearly took the life of one of their puppies.

A fire broke out at a home in Wardville, Louisiana around 9:00 Monday evening. The family is new to the neighborhood and had just moved in when an electrical fire started.

The family wasn't at home when the blaze erupted, but two other members of the family--a Chihuahua and a tiny lab puppy named Midnight--were in the home.

Firefighters were able to get both of them out of the house, and were able to revive Midnight.

Doyline woman gets her car back after two-week dispute

It has been an uphill battle for one Doyline woman who said Tow Masters in Bossier City wrecked her car on the way to the repair shop. She has been battling with them for days. With a little help from KSLA News 12, Shenoah Jackson said she has made some headway.

"They caved. They knew they were fighting a losing battle," said Shenoah Jackson "I feel better. I can rest. I can sleep. I can go on with my daily life."
