Natchitoches teen pageants now seeking contestants

The city of Natchitoches has started looking for contestants for the 2012 Natchitoches Queens Scholarship Program. 

The scholarship program consists of two pageants: The Miss Merry Christmas Pageant and the Miss Natchitoches Teen Pageant. Both pageants will begin at 5 p.m. on Sunday, September 30 at the Natchitoches Events Center.

A longtime instructor at Northwestern State University is giving back to his school with an annuity designated to fund several school projects.

Dr. Harry Briggs established a $120,000 planned gift annuity at the university. Briggs, who is not only an instructor, but also a distance swimmer and long-time supporter of Northwestern State University, was honored during a recognition lunch Thursday.

Sabine Noble Sons Riding Club hosts toy giveaway at annual Christmas Fest

The City of Zwolle, Louisiana in Sabine Parish's annual Christmas Festival is set for Saturday, December 17th. Members of the Sabine Parish Noble Sons Riding Club is among many sponsors for this year's event and as part of the celebration, members have been collecting monetary and toy donations for Sabine Parish kids.

With the generosity of the citizens and businesses of Sabine Parish, the Noble Sons Riding Club was able to purchase 60 bicycles to be given away during the festival. The bicycles, according to club members will be given away in a drawing for kids ages 5-12.

A pair of well-known gator hunters will take part in an annual Natchitoches tradition.

Troy and Jacob Landry, two of the stars of the reality television show “Swamp People,” will appear at the 85th Annual Natchitoches Christmas Festival on Saturday, Dec. 3. Troy and his son, Jacob, are alligator hunters on The History Channel’s “Swamp People.”
