State parks to open swimming pools for Memorial Day weekend

The Office of State Parks will open swimming pools for the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 26.

Pools will remain open through Monday, May 28, for the holiday then close on Tuesday and Wednesday for maintenance and resume regular schedules through the summer.

State parks in the Ark-La-Tex with swimming pools available for day use are: Lake Bistineau near Doyline, Lake D’Arbonne in Farmerville and North Toledo Bend in Zwolle, Louisiana.

Sylvan Learning Ctr. to kick-off 'Amazing Reading Race' contest for area students

Sylvan will again be hosting the "Amazing Reading Race" reading contest for students grades K-8 in Caddo, DeSoto, Webster and Bossier parishes.

We will use our Book Adventure web-site to track which students pass the most number of quizzes on books that they have read from June 1 through August 31.

Prizes will be awarded for grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8 as well as a GRAND PRIZE!!

We will be hosting a kick-off party at the center ,6560 Youree Drive Suite 1001 on Friday, May 4, at 4:30p.m.
