Literary rally district results released

Results of the 2013 Northwest Louisiana District Literary Rally, held on the campus of Northwestern StateUniversity March 23, have been released.  Students from high schools in central and northwest Louisiana participated in the Rally, which is held each year to qualify academically talented students for the state competition at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on April 20.

The Mrs. H.D. Dear Sr. and Alice E. Dear School of Creative and Performing Arts is sponsoring a series of Outdoor Chamber Lunch Concerts. The concerts will be from 11:55 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. on April 10, 17, 24 and May 1 in the quadrangle between Morrison Hall, Fournet Hall and the Family and Consumer Science Building.

Louisiana Tech announces high school rally winners

Louisiana Tech University has announced the winners in the 2013 North Louisiana District Rally qualifying for the State Rally in Baton Rouge or who won first through fifth place in a subject for which there is only district testing have been announced following competition on Saturday, March 23.

Due to problems with testing materials for Agriscience II and Agriscience III, all students who took these two tests will be eligible to compete at the state rally, said Joan Edinger, associate director of admissions at Louisiana Tech and district rally director for the North Louisiana High School Rally Association.

Approximately 1,600 students from 18 North Louisiana parishes competed. Schools also compete for the sweepstakes award in each division. Testing in 49 subjects is separated into five divisions based on school size.

Louisiana Tech University students will continue an 11-year tradition of service to the residents of Ruston and the surrounding communities by hosting the Big Event. This event has become the largest one-day, student-run service.

Tech students and faculty go to homes, churches and businesses to complete a variety of activities including painting, yard work, cleaning, and other tasks disabled or elderly members of the community cannot do themselves, or those that local businesses and churches need help to complete.

The Annual Student Exhibition for Louisiana Tech University’s School of Art has officially opened and will welcome the public through April 9 in room 103 of the F. Jay Taylor Visual Arts Center.

The show, which features award-winning student work created during the school year, is free and open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

NSU students to participate in Academic Summit

Northwestern State University students and faculty will participate in the second annual University of Louisiana System Academic Summit on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13, on the campus of the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

The celebration of academic excellence at UL System universities will encompass the previous system-wide service-learning conference, a student art exhibition and undergraduate research day.
