Northwestern State University’s Department of Criminal Justice, History and Social Sciences is offering a prelaw and paralegal studies concentration within the B.A. degree in criminal justice. The concentration will be delivered online and enrollment is currently open for Fall 2013.

The Springhill-North Webster Chamber of Commerce is announcing its 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Easter Bonnet Contest, hosted by GISFOTO.

The event will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, at the Dixie Youth Fields, located at 100 Kaye St. in Springhill.

North DeSoto Middle School has been awarded the prestigious TAP Founder’s Award. The award, which includes a $50,000 prize, was presented before more than 1,200 educators and policy leaders during a special luncheon recently at the 13th National TAP Conference in Washington, D.C.

Alyea Minter Pollard, a graduate student in Northwestern State University’s College of Nursing and Allied Health, received the Joe Ann Clark Graduate Nursing Education Award, presented by the Louisiana State Nurses Association.  The award was announced during the 12th annual Nightingale Gala sponsored by the Louisiana Nurses Foundation in Baton Rouge.  More than 300 nurses, their families and friends attended.  Katheryn Arterberry, assistant professor of nursing at NSU, was mistress of ceremonies.

NSU students compete in college theater festival

Northwestern State University Theatre and Dance students participated in the annual Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for Region 6 held at the Strand Theatre in Shreveport. This is the first time Northwestern has taken part in the Festival, according to Director of Musical Theatre Andrew Lewis.

Students performed scenes from fall productions of “Smokey Joe’s Café” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” as part of an evening of invited scenes.

Bolton High team takes first in NSU Demon Math Classic

A team from Bolton High School won first place in Northwestern State University’s Demon Math Classic on Feb. 15.

The competition drew eight teams from around the region for a quiz-bowl style competition presented by NSU’s Department of Mathematics and Physical Sciences and Department of Engineering Technology and Computer Information Systems.
