Melrose Plantation hosts 39th Arts and Crafts Festival

The 39th annual Melrose Plantation Arts and Crafts Festival will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday April 13 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday April 14.

More than 100 vendors from around the region will exhibit and sell their original work on the grounds of Melrose Plantation.

During the entire month of April, Shreveport residents are in a race to secure grants to help fight hunger locally. The contest involves rallying the community to go online and vote for the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank to share part of a $3 million grant to help fund hunger relief programs.

Coushatta to turn off water Sunday night for repairs to system

Because of problems with the water system, the Town of Coushatta has to shut off water to the town. The shut-off will happen Sunday, September 11 at 9 p.m. and should last until 1 a.m. People should stock up on enough water to hold them over until the water is turned back on. The shut-down is due to a re-routing of a water line at 1516 Ringgold Ave. Once the water is back on, the city will be under a boil advisory until the water system is tested and deemed safe by the Department of Health and Hospitals.

The Boys & Girls Club of El Camino Real has 25 scholarships available for each of their Boys & Girls Clubs. The scholarships cover the after-school program membership fee of $10 for one year.

The club has two locations in Natchitoches. The Abbie East Boys & Girl's Club is located at 732 Abbie Drive. The MLK Boys & Girls Club is located at 660 MLK Drive. The third club, the Jena Boys & Girls Club, is located at 1465 School Street in Jena.

Louisiana Workforce Commission sponsoring tank truck driver job fair August 3

A hiring event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Mansfield to recruit tank truck drivers for an oil and gas services yard in the Frierson area of DeSoto Parish.

The event, which is sponsored by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the DeSoto Business and Career Solutions Center, 142 Lake Road, Mansfield.
