Tickets on sale now for Mansfield Business and Civic Association Fashion Show

Tickets for "A Girls Night: Fashion Tea & Me", the annual fundraiser for the Mansfield Business and Civic Association, must be purchased by Friday, July 22 at 4:30 p.m. The show will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 26 at the First Methodist Church. The tickets are $20 for a buffet-style dinner, style show and comedians. There will also be drawings for door prizes. Because of problems with the water supply system, the East DeSoto Water System has put a boil advisory into place. The advisory will remain in effect until the water is deemed safe by the Department of Health and Hospitals.

Boys & Girls Club in Natchitoches, Jena offering scholarships for new members

The Boys & Girls Club of El Camino Real has 25 scholarships available for each of their Boys & Girls Clubs. The scholarships cover the after-school program membership fee of $10 for one year.

The club has two locations in Natchitoches. The Abbie East Boys & Girl's Club is located at 732 Abbie Drive. The MLK Boys & Girls Club is located at 660 MLK Drive. The third club, the Jena Boys & Girls Club, is located at 1465 School Street in Jena.

The Springhill-North Webster Chamber of Commerce will hold a Solar Energy Public Forum at 1:30 p.m. July 6 in the Blue Room Civic Center, across from the mayor's offices. Energy Expert Dave Mitchell will be there to talk about solar energy and how you can make money by selling energy back to the electrical grid.

Natchitoches Parish water system loses one of its water wells

One of the two water wells that service the Chestnut/Readhimer in north Natchitoches Parish has quit working, and customers are being asked to conserve water as much as possible.

In an alert sent by Water System President Leslie Johnson, said it appears the well is no longer producing water and has more than likely dried up. Johnson said the remaining well is not capable of meeting what has become the normal water needs of its customers.

A meeting on the matter is set for Thursday evening.

A large, mulit-parish water system has become the latest entity to put a water ban in place because of the region's dry conditions.

The Bayou Pierre Water System covers residents in Red River, Natchitoches, Caddo and DeSoto Parishes. They've put a ban on all outdoor watering, such as watering lawns and gardens, washing cars, and filling pools, until the area gets a significant rainfall.
