NSU announces homecoming festivities

Homecoming festivities at Northwestern State University will be Thursday, Oct. 25, to Saturday, Oct. 27, and will include a golf tournament, exhibits, receptions, reunions, induction ceremonies, a parade and pep rally, and presentation of this year's student Honor Court and alumni honorees during the football game against Nicholls State University.

Most events are open to the public.  Those planning to attend events are advised to verify the time and location with the sponsoring organization.

The Northwestern State University Alumni Association will host its annual Homecoming Golf Scramble on Friday, Oct. 26 at Northwestern Hills Golf Course.

The event will begin with lunch at noon, followed by a 1 p.m. tee time for the four-person scramble.

Bienville firefighters seek riders for breast cancer research

The Bienville Fire District 6/Castor Fire Department is having a walk/run and motorcycle ride to support breast cancer research.

The walk/run starts at 8 a.m. and the motorcycle ride starts at 10 a.m. Both events will be held on Saturday in Castor.

Pony Express Charities will host a benefit barrel race for the Feist-Weiller Bone Marrow Treatment Clinic beginning at noon on Saturday, October 6 at the Talley Circle "T" Ranch & Rodeo Arena, just south of Keatchie on Hwy. 5.

Part of Cane River Lake reopened to boaters

The Cane River Waterway Commission says it has reopened part of Cane River Lake to boaters.

Motorized watercraft may use the Cane River Lake from Pratt's Bridge to the South Dam. The commissions does warn anyone navigating the lake to be very careful of underwater debris that could damage boat hulls or injure water skiers.

From Pratt's Bridge to the North Dam, the lake remains closed to unpowered boats and boats with electric trolling motors. Other motors must be taken off the craft before it's put in the water.

Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce to host two Gun and Knife Shows in 2012

The Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce announce Friday plans to host two gun and knife shows in Ruston, Louisiana in 2012. A spring show will be held at the Ruston Civic Center on April 28 and 29. 

The dates for the summer show at the Ruston Civic Center are August 18 and 19.  Businesses wanting to sell at the show(s) should contact Scott Terry at (318) 255-2031 or sterry@rustonlincoln.org to receive a vendor application.  8 ft.

Cane River Lake closed until further notice

Cane River Lake closed until further notice

The Cane River Lake is now closed.

The Lake Patrol says as of Monday morning, most of the boating traffic on the lake has stopped. The only boats allowed on the lake for now are non-powered or use an electric trolling motor. All other motors must be taken off the boats before they can go into the water.
