DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) - A 64-year-old construction worker out of DeSoto Parish died, Saturday from injuries recieved after a freak accident with a dump truck Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened on Truevine Rd. off of Highway 533 in southeastern DeSoto Parish, shortly after 12:30 p.m.

According to Chief Deputy, Pat Cobb of the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office, construction workers were overlaying Truevine Rd. at the time of the accident.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation will inspect the LA 164 bridge over Bayou Dorcheat in Webster Parish on Thursday, August 25. The inspection will take place from 8:30 a.m. until noon. While the bridge is being inspected, it will be restricted to one lane of traffic. During that time, vehicles 16 feet wide or smaller will be able to use the bridge. Larger vehicles must detour using US 80, US 371 and LA 164. The work wil be done weather permitting.

Money from Louisiana's Capital Outlay fund and the federal government will widen a heavily traveled road in DeSoto Parish.

The $10.2 million will go toward improving LA 3276 between US Hwy. 171 and I-49. Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal and other state officials were on hand to bring the news to the parish.

The plan calls for a half-mile section near US Hwy. 171 to be widened to include a center turn lane. The rest of the road will be widened to 12 feet from the current 10 feet, and will include eight-foot shoulders.
