New CNG filling station opens in Red River Parish

A new CNG fueling station in Red River Parish is providing drivers who fuel their cars with compressed natural gas another place to fill up. The station is located at 1392 Hwy. 84 E. in Coushatta.

For the moment, that makes two operational CNG stations in northwest Louisiana, the other one being in Bossier City at the corner of Benton Rd. and Texas St. However at least seven more public CNG stations are set to open within the next nine months.

Louisiana Workforce Commission sponsoring tank truck driver job fair August 3

A hiring event will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, in Mansfield to recruit tank truck drivers for an oil and gas services yard in the Frierson area of DeSoto Parish.

The event, which is sponsored by the Louisiana Workforce Commission, will be held from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the DeSoto Business and Career Solutions Center, 142 Lake Road, Mansfield.

Last year, 95 people in Louisiana were killed or hurt in crashes at railroad crossings or on railroad tracks. Louisiana Operation Lifesaver continues its work to educate the public on the dangers of failing to yield to trains at railroad crossings.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LA DOTD) announces two bridge closures. Beginning at 11:30 pm on Monday, June 20, 2011, the bridge over the Red River on LA 6 (Grand Ecore Bridge) will be completely closed until 4:30 am on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. Beginning at 11:30 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, the bridge over the Red River on LA 6 (Grand Ecore Bridge) will be completely closed until 4:30 am on Wednesday, June 22, 2011.  The Grand Ecore Bridge is located over the Red River on LA 6 approximately 0.35 miles west of its junction with LA 486.

Sabine Parish man killed after falling from pickup truck

A Converse, LA man was killed Tuesday night after falling from a moving pickup truck.

Just after 10:00 p.m., Louisiana State Police say 36-year-old William Baldree was riding in a truck heading north on LA 481 in DeSoto Parish. Police say for some unknown reason, Baldree climbed out of a passenger side window and onto the top of the pickup. As he was trying to re-enter the truck, he slipped and fell onto the highway.
